Frequently Asked Questions for Ordering Court Records

You may be able to order audio recordings and speech-to-text transcripts for certain electronically recorded proceedings in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County.

Availability depends on the case type, courtroom, and whether the proceeding has been sealed by the Court. If a hearing has been sealed, it will require a court order for release.

No.

Transcript availability depends on several factors, including:

  • Whether the proceeding was electronically recorded
  • Whether the record is confidential or sealed
  • Whether a court reporter was present
  • Court rules governing public access

Some proceedings cannot be released through this service.

The following proceedings are generally unavailable or subject to significant restrictions:

  • Appellate proceedings
  • Juvenile proceedings
  • Mental Health proceedings
  • Many Family Law proceedings
  • Many Probate proceedings
  • Proceedings that are sealed or confidential

If a court reporter was present, a transcript will need to be obtained through the court reporter rather than this service.

If a court reporter is listed on the minute order, transcript requests should be directed to the Court’s website here.

No.

Appeals often require a certified transcript prepared according to court requirements.

Before ordering, you should verify the transcript requirements for your specific appeal.

A certified transcript is prepared and certified in accordance with court rules and may be required for appeals, evidentiary submissions, or other legal proceedings.

A speech-to-text transcript is generated from the official court audio recording and is only intended as a tool to help users review and search hearing content. It is not an official or certified transcript and cannot be submitted to the court in that capacity.

A certified transcript is required when:

  • Submitting a transcript as evidence
  • Filing certain appeals
  • A court order specifically requires a certified transcript

If you are unsure, consult your attorney or the court before placing an order.

Generally, appellate transcripts cannot be ordered directly through this service.

For many appeals, transcripts must be ordered through the court or obtained through the applicable appellate process.

Family Law and Probate appeals involving electronically recorded proceedings may have separate procedures. Please contact the appropriate court division for guidance.

If a proceeding is sealed, confidential, or otherwise restricted from release, your order cannot be fulfilled.

If a restriction is identified during review, you will be notified.

Speech-to-text transcripts are generated from the official court recording using advanced transcription technology.

Accuracy may vary based on factors such as audio quality, the number of speakers, accents, background noise, and courtroom conditions.

Submit your request with the case information and hearing details.

The request will be reviewed to determine whether the proceeding is available and eligible for release.
